The Irish Painter Michael Collins has been signing his paintings in the Irish version of his name (Míceál ó Coileáin) since he first exhibited in Barcelona in 1979 in an unsuccessful bid to stop reviewers in the Spanish press from calling him “un pintor ingles”. He gave up his job as art teacher at Belverdere College Dublin in 1979 and set up his studio in Barcelona in which he continues to paint, alternating with periods spent working in Irland.
